Join NOW - say NO to violence against women campaign

Make your actions count!

BurundiOurCabnline.jpgSay no to violence against women is a campaign launched by Unifem together with WAGGGS and other international organizations. In its second phase, civil society, governments and UN agencies around the world will help fight violence against women by collecting 10,000 actions by March 2010.

Girl Guides and Girl Scouts around the world can contribute their big and small actions on the say no WAGGGS action page. All collected actions count automatically towards the campaign goal and a young WAGGGS member will hand over the WAGGGS actions to the UN in March during the UN Commission on the Status of Women in New York. An action could be as simple as lighting a candle or creating a poster.

WAGGGS encourages all members to use their next group meeting to run an action. To help reach the goal of 10,000 actions by March everybody needs to act now and do their bit. It is also relevant for mixed groups to contribute to the campaign because an attitude change in boys and men is just as important as empowering girls and women to combat violence against women.

Show your support, take action now and make sure your action is counted on the say no WAGGGS action page.
There is a whole range of actions you can do to show your support – from raising awareness by lighting a candle or displaying a poster to offering self-defence lessons and raising funds for your local women’s support centre. To find inspiration and find out how to count actions, including actions that have happened in the past, download the info sheet. Don’t forget to make sure you log on to the say no WAGGGS action page to make your actions count!
The first phase of the say no campaign collected the say no WAGGGS action page signatures of support. Unifem Goodwill Ambassador Nicole Kidman sent a message to Girl Guides and Girl Scouts encouraging them to join the campaign.
